The border crossing from El Salvador to Honduras (El Poy) was very quiet, friendly and hassle-free. We accidentally rode past the immigration office, and the kind woman there actually came after us in a tuk-tuk and led us back to the correct place!
When we got to customs though, the computer system was on a go-slow and the official processing the bike paperwork spent the WHOLE morning entering our details on the computer. He was apologetic, but it wasn’t his fault.
In the end the crossing took over three hours. We were glad that we set out early and brought plenty of food and drink! It didn’t matter too much as we had plenty of time to get to Santa Rosa de Copan and find a good place to stay.
We have spent two days riding some beautiful mountain roads and we are now in Comayagua. So far we have encountered only friendly, welcoming people in Honduras and no hassles at all. Long may it last!
Hi Claire and Mark:
ReplyDeleteWe are still following your journey. We spent 3 l/2 hrs. at the border coming into Mexico from the U.S. at Lukeville this year. Slow forms, no forms etc. etc. All part of the journey and we now know we always need plan B in case we are delayed. We are still learning. By the way we loved Costa Rica when we were there in 2000 so enjoy it when you get there.
Happy trails....Kathy & Eric
